소파 방정환 선생님의 어린이 선언문(1923년) “Declaration of Children’s Right” by Sopa Bang Jung Whan(1923년)
① 어린이를 내려다보지 마시고 치어다 보아주시오. ② 어린이를 가까이 하시어 자주 이야기하여 주시오. ③ 어린이에게 경어를 쓰시되 늘 보드랍게 하여 주시오. ④ 이발이나 목욕, 의복 같은 것을 때 맞춰 하도록 하여 주시오. ⑤ 잠자는 것과 운동하는 것을 충분히 하게 하여 주시오. ⑥ 산보와 원족 같은 것을 가끔가끔 시켜 주시오. ⑦ 어린이를 책망하실 때는 쉽게 성만 내지 마시고 자세자세 타일러 주시오. ⑧ 어린이들이 서로 모여 즐겁게 놀만한 놀이터와 기계 같은 것을 지어 주시오. ⑨ 대우주의 뇌신경의 말초는 늙은이에게 있지 아니하고 젊은이에게도 있지 아니하고 오직 어린이들에게만 있는 것을 늘 생각해 주시오.
① 돋는 해와 지는 해를 반드시 보기로 합시다. ② 어른들에게는 물론이고 당신들끼리도 서로 존대하기로 합시다. ③ 뒷간이나 담 벽에 글씨를 쓰거나 그림 같은 것을 그리지 말기로 합시다. ④ 꽃이나 풀을 꺾지 말고 동물을 사랑하기로 합시다. ⑤ 전차나 기차에서는 어른들에게 자리를 사양하기로 합시다. ⑥ 입을 꼭 다물고 몸을 바르게 가지도록 합시다.
은 우리나라의 최초의 어린이 사랑 운동가이며 애국계몽활동가이었다. “애새끼” 또는 “아이놈”이란 말을 어린이란 말로 바꾸고 봉건사회에서 소외되고 천대받던 아이들에게도 인권이 있음을 강조하고 어린이들을 위한 동화를 만들고 “어린이” 등 각종 잡지를 만들어 냈다. 출처: 한국일보. 1999년 5월 3일

① Do not look down on the child, but look up.
② Keep children close and talk often.
③ Write respectful words to children, but always make them soft.
④ Make sure to do haircuts, baths, and clothes in time.
⑤ Make sure to get enough sleep and exercise.
⑥ Do things like walks and family walks from time to time.
⑦ When you rebuke a child, don’t get angry easily.
⑧ Build something like a playground or a machine where children can gather and have fun with each other.
⑨ Always remember that the periphery of the cranial nerves of the cosmos does not exist in the old, nor in the young, but only in children.
To young comrades
① Let’s make sure to see the rising sun and the setting sun.
② Let’s treat each other with respect as well as adults.
③ Let’s not write or draw anything on the back wall or wall.
④ Let’s not cut flowers or grass and decide to love animals.
⑤ On trams and trains, let’s say no to adults.
⑥ Keep your mouth shut and keep your body straight.
Sofa teacher Bang Jeong-hwan (1899-1931) was Korea’s first child-loving activist and patriotic enlightenment activist. He changed the words “baby” or “kid-nome” to children, and emphasized that children who were marginalized and despised in feudal society also have human rights, created fairy tales for children and created various magazines such as “Children”.
